I am currently an Assistant Professor of Mathematics Education in the Elementary and Early Childhood Education department at Queens College in the City University of New York (CUNY). I love working at the School of Education at Queens College – the college that graduates the most teachers, counselors, and principals in the NY metropolitan area. I take very seriously my job of teaching – as well as learning with and from – those who want to become future elementary school teachers. As a former two-time Peace Corps Volunteer and educator in Bangladesh and South Africa, math teacher in the NYC Department of Education, and math/interdisciplinary studies professor at Guttman Community College, I have dedicated my life to fighting for equity in and through education, particularly for marginalized students and communities. My past scholarship traverses various fields in education ranging from mathematics education, to international education, to postsecondary success, to the scholarship of teaching and learning STEM subjects. My current research focuses on applying computational thinking to elementary mathematics education.
